He’s blonde and he’s Aussie.That’s enough to make the girls swoon.Well,it was more than enough to make me swoon;)And I’m not ashamed to admit that iv had the biggest crush on him for a long time. Saw him for the first time on TV in a series v/s England in 2002.Immediately, I thought he was the cutest guy who existed on the planet at the time(And that view hasn’t actually changed much).Of course, I was just beginning to watch and like cricket, and at the age of twelve, I dint think anybody could play better cricket than Australia(this view hasn’t changed either) and the fact that Brett lee was on their team and was doing fairly well only helped increase my loyalty and fan following.
'Binga',as his teammates call him is the most delirious when he takes a wicket;the cue for him to hurtle forward ,leap high and swing low,down on to his haunches, pumping his fist like he’s starting a lawnmower. But his kind of joy is not conditional on success: it’s ever present. You can see it when he scouts the boundary, hurling in thunderous returns and fielding not just the ball but wolf -whistles from love struck females.
He’s such an amazing athlete and to me,Mr.teamspirit.He happens to be the world’s second fastest bowler as he claims to have a love for speed..and its his devilish 90-something-mph-ers that have broken quite a few batsmen’s’ bones.
Apart from all this, he plays the guitar and piano and is a member of the band Six And Out in Australia. He also has his own clothing label named after himself.Also,the good looks have definitely helped as he earned himself a role in a Bollywood movie in 2008.And,the Indian connection doesn’t stop there. He claims that India is like is second home and loves Butter Chicken and Bollywood and speaks a few words in Hindi too .He has sung a duet in Hindi which was No.2 on the Indipop charts for a few weeks.
He could never take another wicket,never start another imaginary lawnmower.Still,he would be famous forever.A hundred years from now,when little boys wonder what cricket was in the early 21st century,bearded old men will reach for their bookshelves and point to pictures of the twinkling- brown- eyed,perfectly- dazzling-and- uninhibitedly- smiling, Brett Lee.
