WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!

“………We are the champions my friends,
........No time for losers ‘coz we are the champions,of the world”.

                                                                                                          -Queen

The world champions are back with a bang! With an emphatic win  over the  English in the One-Day tourney and a smooth sailing win in the Champions Trophy 2009,the Aussies have silenced their critics who wrote them off ,calling it the beginning of the end of their dominance after their Ashes defeat for the second time in a row on English soil under the leadership of Ricky Ponting, regarded the most successful Australian Captain of all time. A team which had to start almost from scratch after legends like Steve Waugh, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist,Mathhew Hayden,Justin Langer, who, almost simultaneously decided to hang up their boots ,leaving the position of the world champions in the international rankings in  grave doubt, proved their prowess in the cricketing world.

A young ,inexperienced Australian side took on the English team with some grit and determination to retain their pride, after the devastating Ashes defeat which sent ripples in the cricketing world with several people believing that the team was only dependent on the magic of Warne and McGrath and their poor performance in test matches reflected on how incapable they were of winning in their absence.
Being a fan, it was indeed heartbreaking to see the team lose, especially knowing that the Cardiff test and the final test  would have certainly gone their way, had the batting clicked and had luck favoured. But an emphatic 6-1 win in d ODI’s and  the Champions Trophy helped them retain their no.1 spot in the table.

Its probably a smack across the face of the critics who questioned Ponting’s captaincy and the future of  Australian cricket as the winning habit seemed to show sings of ceasing. But the Aussies take their cricket very seriously;they continue to remain immensely passionate towards the game ,the results of which shows in how hard they train and perform on field.
The Aussie winning habit is here to stay for a bit longer.

Can’t write off the true World Champions so easily.
